We support families with the tools needed to succeed in securing their own home
How it works?
We have four Transitional Housing properties in New Plymouth available. These homes are offered to whanau who:
- Have been assessed as eligible for this support
- Are committed to the programme by meeting the property search obligations
- Actively engage with the Transitional Housing team, including regular contact and meetings
Placements are short term and focused on supporting whānau to move into sustainable, long-term housing.
What we provide?
While in Transitional Housing, clients receive the following support
- Regular home visits with coordinators
- Help setting up your tenancy portal
- A professional cover letter for potential landlords or property managers
- Property application support
- Support to address barriers related to your property search
- Referral to the Budget Service and other agencies as needed
- Post-occupancy support for 12 weeks after you secure your own home
Each placement is tailored to individual circumstances, with a focus on practical next steps. We want you to succeed and will give you the tools to do so.
Who this is for
Transitional housing is designed for those who are:
- Homeless or about to become homeless due to unsuitable or untenable living conditions
- Ready to work towards their own independent housing
- Moving on from Refuge support and are displaced due to domestic violence
- Able to live safely without confidential accommodation
This service is not suitable for those who require the level of safety and protection provided by our Safe House.
Accessing Transitional Housing
Access to Transitional Housing is by referral from Work and Income, other agencies or self-referral.
You will be assessed by a Transitional Housing Coordinator to see if you meet the eligibility criteria.
